OPSTAL HOUSES
De Hoop Nature Reserve, Western Cape
De Hoop Nature Reserve is situated just three hours’ drive from Cape Town on the world-renowned Garden and Whale Routes. The 36 000 hectares of De Hoop conservation area is a World Heritage Site comprising rich biodiversity and by over 70 kilometres of pristine coastline.
The 3-bedroomed houses are set amongst the Milkwood trees and behind the Opstal Manor house. Called Blue Crane, Black Oystercatcher and Giant Kingfisher, these spacious houses are set apart from the Opstal area and are well appointed and perfect for families or groups of friends. They have spacious bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, new bathrooms and an outside braai area. Although they are regarded as self-catered houses guests may make use of the Fig Tree Restaurant for any of the meals.
The Opstal area is a central base from which to explore the reserve. De Hoop offers a complete and diverse range of activities and experiences. As a protected Marine Reserve, De Hoop offers one of the best and most accessible locations to view whales in the world. The diversity of eco-systems from the coast, sand dunes, rare fynbos plants, wetlands and the Potberg Mountains is enthralling to nature lovers. De Hoop offers great opportunities for whale watching (including the multi-day Whale trail), birding, hiking various day walks, mountain biking along the many gravel roads, horse riding or scenic game drives. Opstal also has a tennis court, swimming pool and a boules courtyard. Alternatively, lazing on the beach or snorkelling in one of the many turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day.
